FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the steel made from?
Our steels are made from heavy-duty carbon steel (low-carbon steel). This material is chosen for its ability to absorb, store, and release heat efficiently, and for how well it responds to seasoning. It’s the same family of steel used in professional cookware.

What’s the difference between the Party Steel and the Solo Steel?
The difference is size and thermal mass, not quality.
* Party Steel: 16″ square, 12mm thick. Maximum heat retention. Best for cooking multiple pizzas or for those who want the strongest possible performance from their oven.

* Solo Steel: 14″ square, 6mm thick. Faster warm-up, lighter, and designed for cooking one pizza at a time in smaller or built-under ovens.

Both use the same material and seasoning process.

Will it fit in my oven?
Both steels are designed for standard domestic ovens.
* The Solo Steel fits comfortably in most built-under and compact ovens.

* The Party Steel fits most full-size ovens but benefits from a quick measurement before purchase.

We recommend checking the internal width of your oven shelf before ordering.

Will the steel rust?
Carbon steel can rust if left wet, but our steels arrive properly seasoned for protection.
To prevent rust:
* Keep the steel dry

* Avoid soaking

* Wipe clean after use if needed

With normal use and care, rust is not an issue and the seasoning improves over time.

Is it non-stick?
The steel has natural non-stick properties created through seasoning. This is not a coating and won’t flake or fail.
Like all seasoned steel, non-stick performance improves the more you use it.

Do I need to season it myself?
No.
Both steels arrive pre-seasoned and ready to use.
Over time, regular cooking will naturally build and strengthen the seasoning layer.

How do I clean it?
Once cool:
* Brush off any residue with a dry brush or scraper

* Wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth if needed

* Dry thoroughly before storing or leaving in the oven

Do not use the dishwasher or soak in water.

Can I leave it in the oven all the time?
Yes — and we encourage it.
Left in the oven, the steel acts as a heat reservoir, helping your oven:
* recover temperature faster

* stay more stable when the door is opened

* perform better for bread and roasting as well as pizza

Will it warp?
No.
Both steels are cut from thick, flat plate and designed for domestic oven temperatures. Warping is typically caused by thin steel or uneven heating — neither applies here.

Does it smoke?
A small amount of smoke during the first few uses is normal as the seasoning continues to polymerise.
This quickly settles with use. Proper preheating and normal oven ventilation are sufficient.

How long should I preheat it?
We recommend:
* Solo Steel: 25–30 minutes

* Party Steel: 35–45 minutes

Preheat on your oven’s highest safe temperature setting for best results.

Where should I position it in the oven?
For pizza:
* Upper-middle shelf works best in most ovens

For bread and roasting:
* Middle or lower-middle shelf depending on your oven

Every oven behaves slightly differently — a small amount of experimentation pays off.

Can I use it for things other than pizza?
Yes. The steel improves:
* bread oven spring

* roasting consistency

* temperature stability for heavy cooking sessions

Many customers leave it in the oven permanently for this reason.

Is this better than a pizza stone?
Yes, for most home ovens.
Steel transfers heat far more efficiently than stone, resulting in:
* faster bakes

* better rise

* crisper bases

Stones retain heat but release it slowly. Steel does both.

Do I need a pizza oven?
No.
The steels are designed specifically to get the best possible performance from a domestic oven, without the cost, space, or complexity of a dedicated pizza oven.

Where are the steels made?
The steels are produced and finished with care, with a focus on material quality, consistency, and durability. Every design choice is driven by performance, not cost-cutting.

Which one should I choose if I’m unsure?
If in doubt:
* Choose Solo Steel if you usually cook one pizza at a time or have a smaller oven.

* Choose Party Steel if you cook for others, want maximum heat retention, or simply want the best your oven can deliver.

You won’t be compromising on quality with either.
